CT5SOVIS - Visions - Getting it done

To achieve the depth that I sought I had to use numerous layers.

The forest scene also required planes on the sides to mask the ends of the ground planes.

I used the same principle for building the shelves.

The shape of the ring was done by using masks. To create the flickering light effect I used the wiggle expression on both the scale and transparency of the layer. After precomposing the layers, I changed the position of the layer to follow the position of the hand.

One of the most difficult effects implied using videos of ink dropped in water as alpha masks. The original footage was taken from YouTube.

The 3D Book was made and animated in Maya. The rendered frames were later imported in After Effects.

The ghost that passes across the screen was taken from a concept art painting from the game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The ‘nightwraith’ was animated by using the puppet tool in AE.

The vast majority of items that I used were taken from the internet. Most of them needed to be masked or edited in one way or another.

Our original task was to create three scenes, but because I knew most of the techniques already, I wanted to push myself to the limits. So instead of creating three unconnected videos, I decided to incorporate all of them into one video. Being inspired by my previous After Effects test, I created the following storyboard:

After I finished the storyboard I filmed all of my shots in the green screen room.

Throughout the semester we’ve been shown different methods of working in After Effects. I felt that I was lucky because I had previous experiences with the program so it was easy for me to learn the new techniques.

In-class image mash-up: After receiving the assets, I combined the images in Potoshop, keeping the lighting, composition and proportions in mind.
