University of Portsmouth - Animation Yr. 3 - Advanced Pre-Production Methods
There was something that I liked about the monster, so I did not want to just scrap it. While looking for the answer on how to recycle it, I came up with a few questions for myself:
- What is it exactly?
- Where would it live?
- How did it get there?
- Who would realistically discover it first?
The answers to these questions quickly caused everything to fall into place:
- Maybe an alien?
- It is hiding underground so it can not be seen
- It crashed there from space
- A shepherd/ wanderer stumbles upon it / the military
After coming back to the idea of military I remembered about the urban legend of the "Well to Hell" which said that some Russian scientists dug a hole so deep in Siberia that it reached Hell. This legend has inspired the location and the faction that the main character would belong to. I still wasn't pleased with the setting, but the answer came after watching a movie called "The cave" (2005), where a group of scientists get trapped underground, in a cave system and get attacked by an unknown species that has adapted to that environment.
So my story ended up being about a few Russian military-scientists that go into a cave to explore a crashed alien spaceship.
