CT5ANIGP - Initial Group Project Pitch

University of Portsmouth - Animation Yr. 2 - Animation Group Project

For this presentation I tried to bring something original to the table. I knew that many of the projects are going to be based on Asian or northern cultures, which I also was tempted to do, but then I decided to try something that I was more familiar with. Therefore, I started looking at local Romanian legends. Nothing seemed to be fit for a story on its own, but I found three legends that interested me. They were the legend of the Solomonars, The night of the wolves (a.k.a. St. Andrew's day) and the legend of Dracula (more specifically referring to his medallion from the Order of the Dragon which some people believe to have had magical powers).

Fitting all these legends into one story proved to be my weakest point, considering the time available to produce all the work. At that time I didn't consider many variables that could make the goal unreachable, like the resources, time management and man power. In the end I have learned that the film was too long, too complex and too hard to produce.

After doing my research on the tales and legends I started looking for references for the visuals. Those have come from different sources, like the folklore itself, but also animated movies, like The Good Dinosaur

These are the slides from the pitch:
